Ministry of Tourism’s website!
As all Barbadians and most
visitors
to Barbados
know,
this island is second to none as a fun-filled tourism destination.
The
tourism
industry has for sometime been the mainstay of the Barbadian economy
and
a
major foreign exchange earner for this country.
Significant growth has been recorded over the past few years
especially
in the area of cruise tourism.
Over the years, the Barbados
tourism product has been diversified into a number of niche markets.
One of these, community tourism, is a
particular area of interest for me in my role as the Minister of
Tourism, given
that I consider this an important way of ensuring that what we do in
tourism is
sustainable and that the benefits of tourism reach Barbadians at all
levels.
Once there is buy-in by the community, the industry’s chances of
survival
increase.
We believe that the growth of this
industry
is as much due to the
natural friendliness and warmth of our
people which keeps visitors seeking Barbados out repeatedly for leisure
and business activities as to the efforts of the staff of the Ministry of Tourism and the
Barbados Tourism Authority.
This site is intended to furnish
locals and
visitors alike with a wealth of reliable information as to what guides
Barbados’ tourism policy as well as the strategies and activities which
have
been created to oversee the continued development of the industry. For
