The Management, Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS

The management, prevention and control of HIV/AIDS is crucial if the tourism industry is to remain sustainable.  This is primarily because of the labour intensive nature of the industry, coupled with the fact that tourism is people centred.  With this in mind, a comprehensive programme has been developed which will focus on disseminating pertinent information on HIV/AIDS to tourism stakeholders and the many visitors to the island.

The elements of this programme are inter alia:

  •       assisting tourism establishments with the formulation of HIV/AIDS workplace policies
  • airing HIV/AIDS messages on the visitor channel
  •       erecting billboards with HIV/AIDS messages in the arrivals hall of the Grantley Adams International Airport
  •        staging an HIV/AIDS, the arts, culture and tourism activity
  • hosting a health and safety day
  •         conducting train-the-trainer workshops
  •        distributing flyers containing HIV/AIDS information to tourism workers.
