To provide leadership in the sustainable development of Barbados’ tourism industry through the formulation of policy, the provision of timely and quality research; the development and maintenance of industry-wide standards and the facilitation of appropriate product development whilst ensuring maximum economic benefits to Barbadians.
Our Objectives
The objectives of the
Ministry of Tourism are:
a) To provide expert policy and technical advice to
the Minister of Tourism on all matters pertaining to the development of the
tourism potential of Barbados;
b) To foster the development of the full potential of
the tourism sector in order to provide maximum employment opportunities for
persons engaged directly or indirectly in the industry;
c) To encourage and facilitate local and foreign
investment in the industry and the development of a quality, sustainable
product through the provision of meaningful concessions;
d) To
create a mechanism which would strengthen linkages between tourism and other
sectors whilst maximising the economic potential of these industry
areas;
e) To provide, encourage and facilitate the
collection, compilation and analysis of a comprehensive set of tourism
statistics on a timely and accurate basis;
f) To facilitate, monitor and encourage the
enhancement and sustainable development of Barbados’ tourism
product;
g) To conceptualise and execute public education and
awareness programmes which foster in Barbadians a positive attitude towards the
tourism industry and encourages service excellence throughout the
industry;
h) To
facilitate the development of new attractions, including special events
throughout the year, which would assist in the alleviation of seasonality
in the tourism industry;
and
i)
To encourage the attainment of internationally accepted standards within the
tourism sector.
